Requirements of Certified Court Interpreters As approved by the Judicial Council on July 7, 1994, certified court interpreters must meet the following requirements for certification: • Pass the State Certification Examination, offered by an approved testing entity; • Register with the Judicial Council; • Pay the annual $85 fee; • Attend a Judicial Council Code of Ethics Workshop; and • Submit proof of 30 hours of continuing education and 40 assignments of recent professional experience every two years. The State Certification Examination is a rigorous examination divided into two parts:written test and oral examination. The written test is a multiple choice examination that tests the language abilities of candidates. The oral examination tests for the candidates' skills of consecutive interpretation, sight translation, and simultaneous interpretation.
